  • What do I need for AutoX???

Hey everyone, Im new around here, and need some info. I was interested in autoX'ing my 2002 Camaro (I heard the V6 Camaro was good for AutoX, because of it's weight distribution). I am new to the whole realm of RWD cars in general, but for a good FWD autoX setup (which Im most familiar with) , you would want a new set of springs and some sway bars. Is this all I need for a RWD car like the Camaro, or is there anything else that you would recommend? Those of you who have AutoX'ed your Camaro, how did you do? Thanks for the help!

Depends on how much money you have. Start with the shocks and springs. 1LE sway bars are great. If you are planning on getting a road race tire then even 35mm ST front bar would work out well. Poly bushings and endlinks to go along with them. Upper control arms by Global West will improve cornering by allowing you to add more negative camber. Don't bother with a STB, it does nothing. I can't believe I actually wanted one at one point. Subframe connectors will most likely put you into a higher class, which as a novice you don't want to be in.

I don't autox, but I really like my suspension setup.

    1LE springs
    1LE 94 shocks(Decarbons)
1LE sway bars w/poly endlinks and bushings

In near future I'm getting rod ended LCAs.

What is a Panhard Rod, and do I need it if I lower my car? Or if I don't lower it, and decide to go with larger wheels/tires, do I need it with 275's?

275s probably not. Lower it and see if wheels are sticking out more on one side then get the adjustable one. If it seems straight then dont worry about it.

Don't put lower springs on, as that bumps you up a few classes just like SFCs or a S/C.

uhh actually with the Strut Tower Brace I heard its the first mod you should do to a car that you are autocrossing. It is said that most of the body twist is right there in the front. But ot each its own opinion. Basically what was said above, the seat of pants told me LSD gets me out of corner alot faster but not sure if its worth the money I was upgrading to better geas and my stock differntial broke.

IM me sometime at AIM: MustangEater82 I go to UCF and autocross with www.Martinsportscarclub.com, there website is very out of date but you can get some ideas. its alot of fun i thnk i am giving up on drag racing and moving to aurtocrossing.

My car is the Dirty blue car that sometimes has the exhasut uncapped and is horrendously loud and obnoxious. If oyu have seen it in the east orlando area.

The classes that the V6 does well in are the stock classes. You need to get a rulebook, but almost surely you can't change springs or wheel size.

If you want to autocross competitively, you need to keep your mods limited to those that are allowed in stock. If you just want to have fun and don't care where you place, it's a different ballgame.

You can put anything that comes from factory, so 1LE is fair game.

look into www.martinsportscarclub.com its cnetral florida based and their rules are basically, anything that did not come with your car can be used, like 1Le, z28 parts, to be considered stock. For prepared calss you can do anything to your car as long as you do not put in a SC, or a turbo,. or go internal on your motor(cam). And Race is anyhting goes.

                  But SCCA rules are different.

Not in SCCA G Stock, since 1lE did not come from the factory on V6s.

But you can use anything that came on the car in SCCA ESP, such as 1LE parts, 17 inch rims. See the earlier thread I made with autocross links.
