For anyone who lives on the west coast, or midwest ... it POURED today on the east coast, at least around DC for about 5 hours. And that makes for fun autocrossing.

How to do a really fast 360:
1. Stomp on it and swing the tail around one gate, forgetting about the upcoming set of cones
2. Realize that you've got to move over, turn wheel
3. You're going too fast, stomp on brakes ...

And immediately, the rear tires lose all weight, the fronts get a boatload and grip like no other ... and the rear comes entirely swinging around in a nice circle ...

It was crazy. And fun. My times:
1st -- 65 little bit of tail throwing mostly under power(and I thought, Whoa Man! until I heard O/C. Didn't know where though)
2nd -- 85 (no O/C? Right ... 20 more seconds that way)
3rd -- didn't look ... had a few huge spins, one full 360* ... chose to go O/C at the end
4th -- 77 ... wanted to have one run in the books, darnit ... and my damn window fogged up completely 20seconds into it ... had to hit the A/C controls, lose power .. yaddah
No funs today ...

It was a blast. Sooo much fun ... 1st time back in March Ilearned how to not stomp on the gas in the turns, etc ... 2nd time (today) I (need to) learned how to not stomp on the brakes in the turns ...

I hope everyone had a fun day today ... the WDCR-SCCA next event is on May 5th, for all of you in the Baltimore / DC / VA area.

Sounds like fun man.

I had fun just as well.

And yea it poured down for about 15 min (POURED) about an hour before the first heat began.

We had 5 runs, and the first 2 were on soaking wet pavement. The 3rd and 4th run was on damp pavement, and the 5th run was on spotted-wet road. Needless to say, it didn't make it easy, and my best time was the last 1.

Times:
-55 (got sideways in the slalom)
-65 (lost control and went of course and had to wait for them to remove a cone from underneath the car)
-53 (getting there, still slipping)
-50 (almost)
-49 (nice run, could've got on the throttle more... I was still cautious due to previous soaking pavement)

The fastest of the modified heat was like a 40 I believe. Average was probably 48.

And AutoX is defintely cool ... though I can't say cooler than drag'n as I've never been down the strip.

And, as a further note to my above post, it's imperative that one starts to learn to race drive on an autocross course in a parking lot. The spins of mine could have killed me, or run off course into trees, rolled, or any other outcome if I were learning on a road circuit (or a street ...) ... But hey, with AutoX, you just put both feet in, and hold on ... you stop in the middle of the parking lot, shift to 1st, and keep going. I'll be a big-shot SCCA guy one day (heheh), but not before I learn how to drive.

I love autoxing in the rain, my ormal autoxing place is on a police skidpad, the center is painted with the same stuff as lane lines, when it got wet, we thought a Mr@ with slicks was not going to be able to get off the skidpad part of the track, no matter how slowly he feathered the clutch he sat and spun.

Kind of funny, out here in the Pacific NW where we normally get nothing but rain we had two dry days in a row of autocrossing. :cool:
Those new sway bars and the limited slip diff made a huge difference in how the car handled. Almost didn't recognise my car.

They put me in ESP and I get my aess kicked by the other guys in it. Theres a 69 Z28 with cut springs and shackles, 1" sway bars front and back, and radials all around and he cleans the place up.

As for being cooler then drag racing - you pretty much are pumped about whatever one you have been to soonest [img]smile.gif[/img] Nonetheless, I think AutoX is cooler.

Maybe we'll have to go against each other someday when we are both big shots in AutoX ;)
