• anyone ever race a BMW M3???

i raced one the other day. at first, i didn't think he would race... the light turned green and he accelerated real slowly, (as did i after i saw his reaction)... then, after a couple of seconds, he gunned it... it took me a few seconds to catch up to his side view mirror, but he could not pull on me any further. i know that these cars are rated at approx. 13.5s 1/4 mi. just wondering if i got a clean launch if i could've beat him... anyone???
thanks

neil O.

the e36 1994?-1999 model is 240 horse and 225 torque they are pretty fast one time i was at a light early in the morning and a white 4 door m3 pulled up next to me and reved it. so the light turned green a had a slightly better launch but he was right there next to me by the time i was in 3rd gear his nose was right next to my tail i was so suprised those things are supossed to haull. i think with a good lauch of the line and you have some nice mods . It has been proven possible with a near stock f-body.

what year was it?

like said before the 240 hp, but I am pretty sure those were in the 13s, and the newer ones are 330 hp I thkn and maybe low 13s high 12s, with some good tires and a few boltons i ahve seen low 12s.

So you beating it, sure with a good launch and a very big shot of nos, and a 13 second flat run, maybe.

Dude, You're in the wrong forum. This thread belongs in drag racing. (lets try and salvage it for this forum) If, of course, you were campaigning your, lets say, 1997 Camaro V6 in STX Autocross, and were complaining about the damn M3's and WRX's you had to deal with, that would be cool.

In my area, there are a few (one white, one grey, maybe more) of the early I4 M3's that run STX. They do rather well. The Camaro is a decent car for STX, if it is prepped right. I need some shocks, springs, and stickier street tires to be more competitive. And some skills.

The new M3's have 333 HP. My friend had one. It would give a moded Trans Am a run for their money. It would demolish anything in autocrossing (stock) also. Good luck.

the m3 was an exceelent car . ive driven one a couple of times at an autocross they handle amazing but i wouldnt go so far to say that the m3 would demolish anything. The Porsche Boxster S and ZO6 are far superior auto cross cars. the new M3's are to heavy for auto cross but their excellent road race cars and the old generation m3's were good all around race cars

as for the placement of this topic it should go under kill stories not drag racing.
