SEARCH! Start at www.scca.org, and go to their Regions / Divisions to locate your local area. But remember that all Auto-X is not through your local SCCA, but also through your local BMW clubs, Z-Car clubs, etc. And it is not uncool (read: fine) to run at these events with a Camaro or Firebird.

Start with yourself -- you'll make more improvements from practice and seat time than you will (initially) with parts. Read through some of the faq's and information, and previous posts here, and around the 'net. It's a great sport, you'll learn a lot. Expect to chew through tires (not quickly, but perhaps a set a year), brakes, clutch, that's about all. It's the best place to start.
When you do begin to prep your car, focus on what is legal for your class (based on SCCA classifications from stock to modified), so that you are not inadvertently moved to stiffer competition.
