I got 2nd place in stx class out of 4 people. I beat an Acura integra Type R and a 99 mustang cobra. I lost to an 86 Iroc-z.

At the practice yesterday I thought I was screwed because I had terrible understeer and my brakes were being stupid.

I figured out the problem this morning. Yesterday I took out my backseats and spare tire junk, so the rear end was way too light. That made the car really unstable. I left the spare tire equip in today at the competition and the car handled smooth as glass. I never thought 30lbs of ballast would make that much difference in handling.

The understeer condition scared me, so I think I will invest in a meaty front swaybar before the next event.

!backseats moves you out of STX ...

Mirror Khana sounds like a wild event -- it was reviewed in either SportsCar or GRM within the past year or so. Glad to hear that folks are doing well ... but damn, 4 people in STX? We have 20+ ... you'd enjoy the action on the east coast.

WHoops. Nobody said anything in tech about me breaking STX rules.

I can't wait till I move back to virginia. I want to see more than miatas and mini coopers at autocross events.

I also need a rule book, to see what other violations I am commiting.

Perhaps I should move into our local "run what you brung" (Street touring open) class. Anything goes, so long at the tires are street legal.

Malice: I'm with you on the rear weight. I leave all the rear stuff in there, including my amp and stealthbox. And I make sure to race with a full tank of gas. With 1/2-3/4 tank, I feel the fuel sloshing back and forth and don't like it.

        Nice results!

Actually, I'm just givin' you hell about the !rearseats. Over here in WDCR, you'd be hard pressed to hang (well, I am, but maybe I suck) with anything else in STX. Fact is, the damn WRX's and Mini Cooper S's are flying flying flying. We have several pairs of drivers who share coopers, and it's nuts to see a car doing double duty go 5 seconds faster than you. So, remove your seats, and it might help equalize what is definitely not a class for us, but one that we're stuck in. I'm hoping to gain a load going into SM -- tires, turbo, etc. are all fair game, and i'll be in the mix.

Full tank of gas... I am going to try that next time. I bet that will put us pretty close to 50/50 distribution.

During our off season, I am installing a lumpy cam and grippy clutch. Maybe I should look into SM class. It that a street tires class?

I am not going to plan my mods around a certain class. I will choose a class based on my mods. I want a fast quarter timeslip more than a winning SCCA title, since the timeslip is a universal language of speed.

Autocrossing is still more fun, however.
