hehe I was actually considering that... I have a syphon pump(looks like a giant syringe) but I was looking for it the other day, and couldn't find it.

    Then I thought of maybe using my mighty vac, but its kinda small for that.

    We use turkey basters at work to change fluid on projectors all the time.

    As for autocrossing, its 75% driver 25% car...

    GEt driving and you will start to see where your car is lacking.

      You're getting some good tips here...a few more to add...for open track we solved the PS boil over by going to synthetic fluid (Valvoline is great, Redline is better) and running a LS1 power steering cooler. You can get these on eBay for around $50 and they drop right into the lower radiator hose...they come with the hoses and ps hoses too (or don't buy them)...takes 15 minutes to install...and drain the fluid at the same time. Don't overfill the PS reservoir. Half to 2/3 full is max and allows for expansion when hot. And when you really want a bulletproof track PS set up add a Turn One rebuilt roadracing PS pump (stock housing, different valving). For auatocrossing..just go out and have fun..you'll get hooked fast...rp

        I check the local parts store for synthetic PS fluid, but they didn't carry it. Is this something i need to order from Summit? I am hoping that solves the issue - otherwise a PS cooler is in my future.

        SO many mods, so little money (and time).

          I think my biggest issue is I have not settled on a single direction for my car. I want to supercharge the motor, turn it into a show car, AND autocross. Of course, not all of these play nice. It's hard to autocross when the motor is out :D My other issue is if I get hooked on autocross, and I find areas my car is lacking, then I need MORE mods. ;) My wife has been patient thus far - though you should have seen her face when I told her the price of the Ripper and billet shift knob.

          Ahh, its nice to have a hobby.

          Btw, Thanks for all of the input. You guys .

            </font>
Don't worry same with my car I autocross it, drag it, I don't really "show it" but I focus a decent amount on making it look pretty.

            I would love to do more mods but I have been very good with it.

              Good tip. Thanks.

              Solo One is premature ejaculation and Open track is multiple orgasms.

              Big thing right now is the cost. I have been sinking so much cash into the 'bird, there is not much left over for racing. Losing my autocross virginity with cones is probably a good idea too.

              Also a few cheap suggestions for open track include a good brake fluid such as Motul 600 and a great set of brake pads such as Carbotech.

              More good tips. I see I have much to learn.

              Thanks!
              </font>
I'm going to have to disagree with carmel on a couple of points, especially about open track days vs. Solo. And autox is an excellent place to learn.

              As for helmets, what are your plans for the next year in terms of competition? If you're going to stick to Solo competition, you'll have a wider selection of helmets to choose from. Here's a direct lift from the SCCA Solo rule book for 2005:
              Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on course: All helmets meeting the current or two immediately preceding Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M), or SFI standards 31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable. FIA approved helmets which are acceptable for use in Rally events are acceptable for Solo II events.
              Basically, any helmet Snell-certified for motorcycles (M), karting (K) or motorsports (SA) is acceptable for autocross.

                I was thinking of Solo for a year or two. Maybe pick up one of their teaching classes (I think they had like 1 or 2). On top of that, I was thinking of attending the East Coast F-body nationals next year. I'll get owned, but who cares.

                I have not thought much farther out than that.

                Thanks.

                  Whatever you chose it sounds like you have the right attitude...go out and have fun...and definitely take advantage of any schools they offer as the veterans are more than willing to share their knowledge and will help you get up to speed and enjoy the event more...rp

                    Just keep an open mind. You're going to lose. A lot. So don't be smug or stuck up when it happens -- you'll be slower than all sorts of things that you thought were econoboxes.

                    AX is fun, and it's about meeting people and hanging with friends in the sun and rain, and doing a few minutes of cone-crushing.

                    Wear a helmet. Don't dare borrow one -- foam conforms to your head, etc.
