I auto cross when I get the chance. Love it... lots of fun. I would like to have a second car to setup as a track slut. Some day....

There are probably a hand full of other people on the board that auto cross too. I don't know how many road racers we have here.

Most places that do road course have a school for first timers.

You have a couple hours of classroom training on how to drive, what the flags mean, etc. Then you go out either with an instructor in the car or a leader-follower thing to learn the line. Then a little more classroom to talk about what you learned (or didn't learn) on the track. Then more time with an instructor if needed.

In the novice groups you generally can only pass on the main straight, the slower car will typically even give you a point-by to tell you what side to pass on.

As far as safety, you'll need a helmet, either Snell M or SA rated depending on the organization. You'll want to take out anything loose in the car including floor mats. Make sure all your lug nuts are torqued properly to the right value. And ask people with similar cars about the right tire pressures.

About to head out to a new roadcourse (Motor Sport Ranch) that just opened up in the Houston region...will be the first time in a long time the camaro has been run as I just finished preparing it and getting it running for track duty yesterday. I will autocross the Camaro a few more times after this track weekend then sell it... need to find an easier to work on and less costly track vehicle. So if anyone would be interested in a few months for a dedicated track/Mod class autocross Camaro that is still technically street legal, there will be one available.

I really love how this Camaro handles...but can't afford to run it and can't stand working on it one bit (most aggravating car I have ever worked on).

i feel your pain...thats why im getting another 240 evrything is right there in the open, you could put an elbow in each side of the engine.. and rear wheel drive, plus if you go tired of the performance, you could always bump up to the SR20DET japan spec motor, runs near 13s stock.. and the best part about the swap, is that it bolts right up and the engine is fairly cheap for the power..
$1200 for 205 HP @ 200 ft. torque and not to mention the very light weight of the car itself..

Most local SCCA groups sponser these events several times a year. My local Corvette club does it along with the SCCA'ers.

On a real roadcourse my Vette eats Miata's like candy bars, but on Auto X, the Vette is simply to big and heavy to compete. For that reason IM putting a 3.4 in my MGB so that I can compete with the ricers.

miatas are pretty agile, but yeah i agree, the vett demolishes them on road course. what competition does the SR20DET (240sx JDM MOTOR) have against the vett? have you ever competed against one? ive heard lots of good stuff about it...

Autocross is the only option in Alaska as there are no road courses only drag strips. So I Aut-X when we have events. I just don't get into drag racing at all it's just not as fun.
