If two v6 fbodies were to race. One with a stock 3.4 and one with a stock 3800 who would win in a 1/4 mile drag? If both were AT? If both were MT? Just curious because even though I have read that the 3800 has more hp and tq I am hearing that they run pretty slow. I began wondering about this after reading the thread about they guy who had trouble getting his 3800 to burnout. I have no problems with my stock 3.4 doing a burnout. Anyway I would like to hear your opinions.

Re: stock 3.4 v6 vs. stock 3800 v6
3.8L is faster....
I mean there will be a few 3.8Ls that on average are slower, but they likely have an issue with driver or the car.
3.4Ls feel more like a truck motor imo... seems they have more power in the lower rpms which makes it a little easier to light the tires up. Also all 3.4Ls have drums in the rears, and most 3.8Ls have 4 wheel disc brakes, and its possible on a brakestand that they cannot overcome the brakes as easily...
My stripper 5-speed 3.4L ran like 16.6-16.8 stock.
My mildly optioned 5-speed 3.8L ran 15.2-15.4 stock.
3.8Ls are a little different on average.
you hae the 3.8L Y87 that has LSD and 3.42 gears, they are the peppier of the bunch.
Then you have 3.8L 5-speed with 3.23s which we all know 5-speeds are best ;) but its geared decently.
Then you have the dog of the bunch, which is also the most common 3.8L 3.08 Rear and auto.
I think there are only a handful of 3.08 3.8Ls even in the 14s, but once you get into 3.8Ls with different gears or 5-speeds, they seem to break into the 14s much much more easily.
I have seen 3.08 cars run in the 16s all day, but usually the lower 16s, its possible if they had an issue that they were in the high 16s and a good driver squeezes a nice time out of a 3.4L might beat it. But unlikely stock for stock.
Now some bolt ons on a 3.4L you can take on a decent amount of 3.8Ls.-Eric
2000 NBM V6 Camaro 5-speed T-top converted
14.467@95.45mph $0 in mods
The member formerly known as MustangEater8251
