• Weight Loss Plans

Ok, I've done some research regarding the weights of various parts, using Brent Franker's part weights page (http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/fbody/weights.htm) as a guide. Here are my plans for my car:

Curb Weight: 3,331 lbs.

Jack - 10 lbs.
Spare - 28 lbs.
Front Leather Passenger Seat - 32 lbs.
Rear Seats - 29 lbs.
Rear Seatbelts - 5 lbs.
Rear Hatch Cover/Divider - 2 lbs.
Switch from stock 2-pc DS to LS1 alum. DS - 34 lbs. to 11.5 lbs.
Switch from stock hood to VFN fiberglass hood - 44 lbs. to 18 lbs.
Floor Mats - 3.6 lbs.

1 gallon of gas weighs 8.66 lbs. multiply that by a 15.5 gallon tank, and you get 134.23 lbs. Subtract 3/4's of the tank, which is 100.6725 lbs.

Final weight (without driver): 3072.22 lbs.

That's 258.78 lbs. lost.

I chose very simple modifications. This car is my DD, and I don't want to tear it apart or lose creature comforts like A/C. The final step is my fat @ss losing 60 lbs. Race weight, with driver, currently would be 3332.22 lbs. After I lose weight, it'll go down to 3272.22 lbs.

Questions/comments?

1 gallon of gasoline only weighs 5.8-6.5 lbs, not 8.66. But it sounds like you have a good plan for a quick, easy diet for your car. Theoretically that'll knock off .25 seconds in the quarter.

Hmm...i was going off the weight of a gallon of water. I forgot that gasoline is lighter. 6.2 lbs./gallon @ 70 degrees seems to be the general consensus, it doesn't fluctuate too much with normal temperature ranges.

so, recalculating then....

a full tank of gas weighs 96.1 lbs. Subtract 3/4's of tank, which weighs 72.075 lbs.

Final weight w/o driver: 3100.82 lbs.
W/driver: 3360.82 lbs.

Re: Weight Loss Plans

Some people will remove the front sway bar as well (just for the track, put it back when you are done racing) to shave another few pounds. You could also remove the windshield washer fluid resevoir (or just empty it) for a few more pounds.

Kudo's to you man. A true racecar driver will go on a diet to cut race weight. Thats true motivation for speed! :D

yeah, those are all things to think about.

as for losing weight, it's not just for racing. I want to get back into shape instead of sitting around doing nothing all day. the weight loss is just an extra benefit while racing :D

For the street, I'm also getting these:

I'm going to buy them today, actually. They look pretty nice, IMO, and they shave about 30 lbs. off.

yeah, they're pretty cool. I considered getting the ones with the storage hatches, but I don't really need them, and anything I'm carrying in my car is probably gonna be bigger than the hatches. Plus, the solid ones have a cleaner look to them.

I'm just not sure if I need to get the black or the graphite colored ones.

go for the aftermarket K member, shave another 70lbs off of the front end

and a battery relocation is a good way to put some more weight over your rear wheels
K&N air filter, Whisper air lid, magnaflow LT1 cat back, and magnaflow high flow cat, pacesetter headers, silverstars

more to come soon
but for now im out of money
