              Re: Y87 1/4 mile

some 99s had the 2 piece and some had the 1 piece. They were in the process of converting over. Some of the overseas cars also had to have the 2 piece for vibrations at high speeds on the highways over there.

Overall though the alum. driveshaft swap from a 2 piece usually nets .2 in the 1/4

Would it be worth it to swap the steel with alum?

some but not as much as 2pc to 1pc. The alum is steel slightly lighter than the steel 1 piece

Thing with the steel is that it is stronger than the alum so if you go with some big power in the future, then less chance of snapping it.

                    Re: Y87 1/4 mile

The biggest difference in the driveshaft is the weight: less rotational mass = faster car.

                    2 pc...32lbs.
                    1 pc steel....15lbs.
                    1 pc alum....11lbs.

the 1 piece steel is definatley more than 15 lbs...I would've guessed in the low 20s...its pretty stout.

You are right Shawn, the 1 pc steel is 16 pounds, my bad :p

BTW, the alum is 11.5, that was a typo in my last post.

Hm, it still seemed heavier than that.
I have mine at our shop, I'll weigh it.

Not true. My non-Y87 car came with 3.42 and lsd and would whup Y87 cars. 14.6x with no intake and a LS1 muffler.

you still had to update your car to beat it, id rather have a Y87 than non with 3.42's and LSD. It has the tighter steering and dual exhaust already...
And im calling :bs: on a 14.6 with just a muffler and no intake...till i see a slip
