3.4's run mid 16's?? wow, i've never run my car at a track but i've got a high flow + flowmaster 80 2.5" and i've always been able to hang w/ my buddy's 98 out on the highway and such, and the guy that had it before him ran steady 15.9's...would the intake+exhaust make that much diff?

My best 1/4 mile was a 15.1X @ over 90, with a 2.2 60', and a 9.6x @ 72mph through the 1/8 mile. I've run those mid 9's through the 1/8 quite a bit. The car has always been a bit of a freak. Of the other 3.8 Fbodys I've ran against, the fastest one ran a 9.81, and the average was around 10.2 through the 1/8.
Put your maf screen back in if you still have it. It helps smooth out the airflow letting your maf get a better reading. It is not there for any filtering effect. It does not slow down or decrease the amount of air coming into the engine so removing it is only a bad thing.

You can't compare it to something else when you are running on the highway... not from a stand still... and the same car can run totally different times when oil changes and such aren't taken car of. Driver error plays a role as well.

Not always true. Each car reacts to the screen differently. It really doesn't help anything for my car. I've got a 99, so the throttle body is straight, unlike the models before, the air is already pretty straight. My car litterally runs better without the screen. The only advantage I got with it was a ***slightly*** smoother idle.

I've talked to people with 98's and earlier that tried removing the screen and it made things worse, most likely because of the angled throttle body.

Either way, I still have my screen, but it's bent (the reason I removed it to begin with). An undamaged screen didn't help the car either. So yeah, I'm sticking with the no-screen setup I have. It's been out for 50K miles, and it hasn't hurting anything so far.

ok well i think im good now, my car is right where i want it to be, i put new coil packs on new wires and new plugs, oil change with engine restore and lets see here my car droped almost a full second, the bad boy is running a 15.4 now. perfect! but i still dont understand why 99 and up are faster, there still rated same hp and tq and the same weight, so what gives why are they faster, do they just put more power to the ground in certain rmp's then the 97's i dont get it????

they have a straight TB, shorter distance with less curves to the airbox. 99s have tubular manifolds, which flow alot better then log style manifolds. Not radical changes but it helps a bit.

I think a few people dynoed there car from tubular manifold to shorty headers, and saw very few gains. Not near the gains that the lincoln log style guys get with headers.

I think it's the 2000+ models that have the tubular manifolds. I've still got the block manifolds on my 99.

EDIT: SmokeyPants beat me to it.

whatever year it is, they flow better.
