I own an '02 3.8 auto with the following mods: ZZP GT1 cam, Flowmaster catback, K&N FIPK, 160 drilled stat, SLP manual fan switch, 3.42 gear.

OK I see you have it tuned now.. Let me give you a little advice on racing Auto F-Bodies. Before you do exhaust, or head/cam or anything.. You start with Suspension and Transmission. With full suspension and a built tranny with a verter, and LSD (if you don't have one)your car would be faster on stock engine than it is now with the mods and tune. Once the suspension and tranny are right everything else will fall into line.. Also during the entire process practice practice practice... experience pays bigger dividends than you think... OH yeah and get rid of that Flowmaster and get something that flows

The only thing I disagree with is I would get a full exhaust, lid, mail order tune THEN go for suspension and trans. Then start again with things like heads, cam (then dyno tune), spray etc :naughty: Realistically, most V6's are not garage queens and most drivers (like me) want some mods that can show on the highway and daily driving, as well as at the track. Just my $.02

edit: Limited slip should be the FIRST mod for ANY F body that is not factory equipped. Even running on bald tires.

I didn't really get a good run all day. Had at least one thing go wrong on each pass as stated alomg with the new times. Once i get rid of the wheel spin i should be able to get my 60 foot times down. Gonna do a longer burnout in the water box next time.

if you are on street tires, do NOT do a burnout in the water box.. this will piss people off... water gets in the treads, drips all over the launch point, slicking up the track.. this could be part of the reason you are spinning so much on launch as well

We should sticky that ^^^ That IS the reason his 60 is so low. No doubt. Just clean the tires off, light em up real fast after the wetbox.

just to add one thing... dont even drive through the water if you are on street tires, there is usually room to drive around the water, use it..

also street tires dont get much sticker when they have been heated up.

^ actually, they do. Tire compound gets softer when heated up. Period. The benefit to burning out on street tires is also to clean them off. As previously stated.

true, but they don't benefit nearly as much as drag tires because there is a lot less rubber actually contacting the pavement...

Heating up street tires may work for a lightly-modded 3.4 or a stock 3.8, but with the numbers he's putting down, the compound that street tires are made up of simply cannot handle a hard launch, period, indent paragraph.
The only thing that will net him a sub-2.0X 60' is drag radials. They don't have to be all out slicks, but the OP's moved far beyond what street tires can offer him.

I find street tires slightly warm "aka do a slight burnout in cold weather" hooks way better than doing no burnout.... maybe that's just me

To bad the season is over otherwise i would have had more time to practice.
It doesn't seem to have matter if i heated them up or not i still had wheel spin either way. I avoided the water box and that helped. I am probobly gonna try to pick up some DR's for next season if i can without spending to much money.

Warm street tires are better than cold street tires.

A full on burnout with them is pointless though because the compound is not meant to get soft and tacky like a drag radial does.
