the problem with your times is your 60'. With an auto, there are 3 ways to solve said problem:
1) Get a higher-stalling torque converter
2) Get taller gears and a posi
3) Practice
Besides that is there anything else that would help out...Like maybe suspension wise or sumthing, I was really bogging off the line, and absolutly no tire spin...I was expecting to run very high 14's or very low 15's given what I have done...
Just work on your 60 foot...with the power your car is making you should be able to get a 2.0 even with crappy 3.08 gears.
If you do that you'll be in the 15.4 range.
Then you need to look into LSD and gears (3.73s or 4.10s) and you'll be seeing high 14s with a litle practice.
What is the altitude taht you are running at? Your MPH seems pretty low. If you are at high altitude, that would be the reason it is not running as quick as you want also.
Flashing the stock verter is futile as it doesn't have a high enough stall to gain anything. You need to invest in gears (3.42, 3.73) and a decent LSD. Then work on the suspension (LCA's, Torque Arm, Panhard Bar..etc), get an aftermarket verter.... and as earlier stated Practice Practice Practice..and then Practice again
2000 Firebird.. Whisper lid, Custom exhaust, FRA mod, MSD Coil packs, MSD wires, TCI 3000 stall verter, TSP mail order tune. No times as of yet waiting for the track to open
3.42's or even 3.73's if you don't do a lot of highway driving, sticky tires at correct drag racing psi for your setup, and some LCA's and pan hard bar..get them down then go with the stall (3500 - 4000) and a torque arm..i'd do it in these steps of importance
gears
tires
LCA's and pan hard rod
stall and torque arm

Not sure the altitude, or how to go about finding it out...I was racing at Cayuga Dragstrip in Hagersville, ON...and there website sucks so there is not really any info on there...Yea I thought my MPH was kind of low to...see this is what I find really weird, When I get onto the highway around my house, it has like 150-250 meters after the onramp before the lane ends...If I take my car at exactly 20km/h around the ramp then hammer it as soon as I hit the straight part, I hit 130km/h on the dot just as I run out of lane (thats about 80 mph) And that length right there is like maybe half the track IF that...This is why Im kind of leaning towards my launch being really bad...Gears and LSD have to wait until atleast after winter, but I am debating on whether I should do suspension or gears first, since I'm thinking I may have more of an issue getting power to the wheels right now?
I would definitely invest in an LSD and gears. All I have is a catback, ram-air, and a lid and I ran a 15.7 as my best of the night my first time out, but I have 3.42s and LSD. And that was in crappy Miami heat and humidity. Your rear end is killing your times. You should running closer to a 15.0 with those mods.
yeah..i got a good .4 just from switching from the open 3.08 to a 3.42 LSD..keep in mind you'll have to tune for the new gear ratio..if you don't have your own software you can still just send out your PCM to a company that will do it for you
Ok just got back from the drag strip the other day...I have to say Im kind of disappointed with my times. I ran 15's all three runs, and I want to know how I can improve my times without just throwing money at it, and staying naturally aspirated.
My mods... ram air, full exhaust including headers, ZZP waterpump pulley, MSD wires, MSD coils, NGK iridium spark plugs, aluminum driveshaft, PCM4less tune. I ran on my street tires which are Hankook HR II's 245 wide on the stock 16 inch rims
I would have thought that I would have been high 14's like 14.8, 14.9? Can someone help me analyse these slips and help point me in a direction for improvement...this was my first time at the track
thanks.
Basically you're only HP mod is headers. No Cold air intake? Strange. You say "ram air", care to elaborate? I was also unaware that anyone had real tuning software for 96's. What did the tune include?
As everyone else said, your 60' is crap. Your car is hooking, you say, but the power just isn't there. And your MPH tells me that much. Every 14 second pass I made, I was at 72 at the 1/8th and 90+ ath the 1/4.
Like I say in every post in this section. Weight reduction. Take out the old algebra book, the 20lbs of change in your counsel, the 15lbs of junk in your glove box. Many people over look these areas and can possibly pick up a tenth or two just from cleaning the crap out of their cars.
Hey guys. For starters I’ve always been a big car guy, I love all types of cars and can appreciate all types of engineering. I’ve always been a Chevy...
