I've been looking into doing this for over a year now. They are having an even in the university football stadium parking lot next week. I think I might spectate just to see what its like. I would like to find someone else interested to go with me though.
I went on my own and met a couple of cool guys to hang out with. The cool thing about the club is everyone is into cars.
I think my car would do pretty well for a rwd. I mean it handles like a dream in 1st and 2nd gear... but then again, I've never done this. Its only 30 dollars for non-members in my region.

Try it. The worst you'll be out is $30. Most club events you'll get 4 - 6 runs in.
At my class there was a dude in a bone stock civic. The car handled liked garbage, but the kid drive the s**t out of it. His times were not bad compared to many of the prepared cars. I honestly thought his right front tire was going to come off the rim...
Sounds like a blast! Do they just sit down cones or do they give you lines to make sure you know where your going? I remember reading last year that the region here lets you do a walkthrough of the course but when I watch them on video, seems kinda confusing. I bet its easier in person though.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing this morning. Looks like it would be a little confusing to remember the course... especially for those of us that have so much going on right now we are having trouble keeping our minds locked on anything.
But I've seen some setup where they have plenty enough cones to tell you where the next turn is and they also paint/line out the path on both sides.
There is always a course walk before the start of the event. This is your chance to see where the course goes. Some places, from what I heard, outline the course with lime or chalk, but that's an arduous process for a long course.
My biggest concern is going off course (I did it twice in class), but I guess one would get used to the after a while.
It took me over a year to actually get out there and try.
I know this is posting to a dead thread but I am glad that I read it. I just got done looking into the SCCA for my area and I think that I am going to do it. It sounds like it will be alot of fun and a membership with SCCA is not that expensive. Thanks for posting this thread (even though it was lik 8 months ago). I have been thinking about what I would like to do with my car (Drag, street race, etc.) and this looks like the thing for me. I cant wait!
So my truck is finally getting some work done, after 17 years, Oil pressure sensor went out and it’s located under the lower intake manifold. Have to...
