  • Shy to run my car but got a date.

Very late next year I have intentions of running my car at either PMI or Bandimere speedway either is very possible. I have a date to run a 1982 Ferrari 308 in the 1/4mile to the best of three.

Heres the thing though Iv'e never really pushed my car to its limits in terms of racing it, sure a few runs and cruises here but nothing offical never exceeded the speed limits on the streets.:( Iam kind of shy to open it up.

I wanna take it to the track and run it to see what it runs but iam afraid of breaking something on the car and looking like a dumb@$$ at the track like some of those guys on pinks where the car breaks down.

I have never pursured drag racing in my life I have been to a couple of track meets to watch corvettes and vipers race but nothing in the 1/4mile. Is there any guide I could perhaps check out, sites or classes I could take to prepare myself for this run?

By then my car should be complete with the RS stuff and cold air intake, exhaust. I don't wanna turbo my car or run the bottle since his car is bone stock.

2nd, you're telling me you've never really opened up on your car??

at your car's current and projected level of power, you won't break anything, so long as you don't hit a wall

check your local drag strip, alot of them have drag racing clinics that they put on from time to time for free.

other than that, heres how it goes.

            go around water box

punch the gas and spin the tires just a bit (if you can)

slowly approach the tree, and watch the 2 yellow lights at the top of it (these are the staging lights, first one is pre stage, second is staged IIRC) stall car up, then get ready for green.

thats about the most general description of racing i can give you without going into it too much.

I doubt cars that racing really breaks anything unless you are running something big like nitrous, t/c or s/c

If you have maintained your car properly then it should be fine. Things break when you are attempting to push the car right to its limits...so unless you have some crazy tune that is pushing those limits or like I said nitrous, t/c, s/c...or running something like an untuned cam...the chances of you breaking something are slim to none

Yessir, I raced my untuned stock *** 02 besides the whisper lid and flowmaster catback (which is poop IMO) and I've been hooked ever since. I think something like 15.7ish was my best 1/4 time. Bought my brothers 98 just to slap a turbo into it and bring it to the track. And maybe drive around town every once in awhile with it. It's one of those big decisions that I do not regret. If you know anyone that drags you could have them ride shotgun your first time down the track, that's what I did. He explained to me what I should do and all that tree stuff. But most of all, have fun. That's why we all do it.

Yeah if you are on a stock tune and pretty much stock, you definitely won't break anything. The only negative things that would probably happen, you will lose tire life and waste fuel.. but that's about it.

If you had like 300 rwhp or more, that's when you start breakin' ****.

can you please open your legs and check for anything in between them for me? You seriously need to grow a pair and put it to the floor for once. Wow you sound like a little school girl just getting her first period.

I am sorry but someone had to say what everyone else was thinking. So get out there and drive it like it was built to be driven

thats horse****. a car can break at anytime. it doesnt matter if its stock or modded, racing a car is a risk. ive seen plenty of cars breakdown for all sorts of reasons(blown trannies, axles, clutches). if youre a big pussy and never want to experience racing because youre scared to break something then dont do it if you cant pay the price of what could happen at anytime. its something that doesnt happen often, but it does happen. and to be honest, its a part of racing. **** happens. you'll live if it breaks.

I said if you have taken good care of it, and its in good condition, and I suppose if your not retarded and do something really dumb (like trying to shift an auto manually or something)...the ODDS of you breaking something are slim to none.
Things break more often when you have big mods, and you are trying to run more (max) boost, or trying to hook a 300-400hp car, or nitrous backfires etc...

With mods like what he has, and what I have, racing the car is not much harder on it then opening it on the highway

That being said if you dont have everything in check, and regular maintenance done, then yea that little bit of stress can break something, but that thing that broke was most likely going to break very soon anyways.

In the case of broken trannies...shouldnt happen if your not being dumb, and have your maintance/fluids up to date (and your not running on one that is already slipping to begin with)
clutches will sometimes go if its already on its way out...etc, etc, etc...
