If you are looking to get some real power out of your car, then the 3.4 swap is probably the easiest engine to swap in, as 2.8 suggests.
If you don't have a lot of money to spend right now, you might want to consider the basics first, such as an exhaust (I like the Flowmaster 80 series) and custom made cai, both of which can be used when you decide to upgrade to a 3.4.

It should, since the TH700R4 is the nonelectric version of the 4L60E which is used in the 4th gens with a 3.4L. I'm not a trans expert, but I think it should work.
Sweet! But can i keep my fule injection?

the 4.3 is a 3/4 sbc. 90* engine. The 2.8/3.1/3.4 is a 60* engine. different tranny bellhousings, different manifolds, same oil filter, different heads.

Yes. From what I have been told about the swap you use your injection system from the 2.8/3.1 on the 3.4. As for the tranny, yes it bolts right up as well since they are both 60*s.

heres a good list of mods without getting a 3.4. but if you got a 3.4 you would need bigger fuel injecters.
