finally got to the track to rerun my car after tuning my carb and fixing my detonation problems . the results are as follows

1st run - 14.4@96.54 2.1 60
2nd run - 14.3@96.78 2.0 60'
3rd run 14.7@96(slight traction problem)
4th and new best was a 14.1@97.3mph with yet another 2.0 60' im having trouble getting that any lower , i think i could help my et alot if i could squeek a 1.9 out of my car , i think with a little more tuning and some decent traction i could squeeze into the 13s somewhere along the line .

by the way , my car is an 87 z28 with a carbed 305 *LG4*
1987 z28 . lg4 305 . edelbrock performer intake , 600 cfm performer carb , all smog equip gone . gutted cat . slp headers with y/pipe and cat back , mild street cam . pocket ported heads<p>14.1@97 mph w/2.1 60\' .

put the gran nat'l engine in the Z ;)
yo got enough power, what have you done for weight reduction/enginemods? put on smaller rims out back & see what happens. any mods to the carb, what little there can be? is the traction prob not enough tire, suspension mod needed?

no weight reduction really except for the jack and spare tire are taken out , no ac system , 2 inch fiberglass cowl hood . and thats about it . as far as the motor , well here goes

1987 lg4 305
edelbrock performer rpm intake manifold(vortec style brand new)
jet performance qjet
slp headers w/air
custom ground cam , 204/206 .425 lift
vortec heads milled to 58 cc otherwise stock valve sizes and ports
all of the internals are stock , the smog is still hooked up and the 700r4 is stock and gears are out of a g92 car (3.42) . i think im going to be sswapping to a t-5 soon im curious to see what that does . i dont know we will see . oh and my tracion problems are being caused by the crappy pep boys special tires out back , i will switch them one day but for now i want to run it at the track the same way i drive it on the street .
my suspension setup is all stock except for a belltech lowering kit , i think it looks alot better

oh and the grand national will be staying the way it is , just probably a little more modded

i think im going to start looking for the best of both worlds an 89 tta found a few in my price range but i just bought the gn so we will see what happens

improve the rear suspension, get the better tires as you said, shift kit. some people remove the front sway bar for the track to save weight. relocate the battery to where the spare used to be. weight transfer is good ;)

edit: try some front drag springs, for track only though.
