On a 91 v6 with 117k miles on it, should I bother with CAI or super/turbocharging? What do you all think would work best (in terms of cost, availability, installation problems)? And would i have to put in a flowmaster exhaust to help with the extra intake?

if you don't have the money &/or cannot afford the down time, do not go w/the turbo/supercharger. ram air/cai can be done for about $50 (price of aftermarket air filter not included). My bird is my second car, and getting the turbo free also helped, but everything else to make it work will bring my total investment to about $1200 on the project.1978 Formula 461 in progress of being built :rock:

First you should try the tb coolant bypass and a homemade CAI. Both of those are inexpensive. You should get a little over 10 hp after both of these mods.

since your looking for inexpensive performance mods, relocating the battery to the "trunk" will help it handle better & put that much more weight over the right rear to help prevent those one-tire-fires [img]tongue.gif[/img]
edit: read the origonal question again, since you have a camaro, you can always do the free raim air mod.

Click here for the instructions on the custom cai (same link as above). It is actually pretty easy to do. The hard part was finding out which pipes/sizes were needed since I couldn't find that information anywhere. I had to make a few trips to the hardware store for that. hmm.. Ive been rather sheltered as to the bad things that happen to cars, because my dad and brother take such good care of their vehicles. remove your spare tire, replace w/ large can of fix-a-flat, get the batt relocation kit from summit, 1/2 the price of jegs :rolleyes:
kit should have some directions to it. Make sure to seal off the vents to the interior on the removable panel. vent the battery to the out side air (unless you get an optima sealed battery) as batteries vent gas, & you really don't want to inhail it in an enclosed area. Fortunately, my car has a hole on the bottom of the spare area, so I just have to biuld it uo to secure the batt.1978 Formula 461 in progress of being built :rock:

If you are wondering about the air sensor, all you need to do is drill a hole in the PVC pipe in order to let the sensor slip in. If I remember correctly, the sensor itself unclips from the wire and then you can take out the cannister and unscrew the sensor. Now if you look on the picture in the article, the hole is drilled in the bottom of the 45° elbow. I suggest drilling the hole about 5/8" wide because you can always file the hole to make it a little bigger if it is too small for the sensor to fit in. Then you can just screw the sensor into the pipe and connected back up and your all set to go.

91Firebird, your thinking of the Air Intake Temp sesnor. Put the MAF right behind the air filter, & the AIT sensor right behind/in front of the MAF.

Oh, [img]redface.gif[/img] I thought he was talking about the air temp. sensor because that was the only sensor that I had to deal with when installing the cai. about the maf sensor i have an 89 2.8 mpfi.
standing in front of my ride the battery is to the left so intake would have to go the other direction and i dont have as much room in that area where the filter would go. so to answer your questions about the maf sensor dont use the straight 9in. pipe use the maf sensor in its place get 2 or 3 , 3in rubber connectors with clamps and tighten, you'll have to wiggle and push them into place but they will fit then tighten clamps.and yes you get the rubber connecters with clamps at lowes or home depot they cost about $7 or $8 bucks.
