I'm wanting to buy and install a 160' degree thermostat for my 91 Camaro RS, but I've heard, and read from other topics on this message board that there could be some computer problems. How much of a danger is involved in this? I would like to know IF I should do this or not.
Believe it or not, I haven't replace the thermo on the 89 bird. But the water pump and hoses have. As far as the rumors go I say its just that. The other bird have had it four years now and I haven't seen any computer glish, or anything like that. And yesterday I had it smogged tested and the car past with flying colors.
Now here's what I've notice when I did replaced it. Performance got a little better, especially when the car is cold like around 165, not a whole lot though. I didn't notice any increase in fuel mileage. I also notice the car running smoother during heavy traffic. Maybe perhaps the temp only goes as high as 190-210 and not 220-240 on stock. So I say just go for it.
