  • 3rd gen common repairs discussed in High Perf. Pontiac

FYI - The latest issue of High Performance Pontiac (Oct 2002) has an article on repair some common problems of third gen birds:
    -Overheating (broken airdam and ducting)
-Pop up headlight failures (Sunbird headlight motors can substitute for hard to find junked Firebird headlight motors)
    -Rear latch pull-down motor failure.

The author is fixing up a 1988 GTA that was in pretty sorry condition.

H.P.P is a great publication. If you can wait a month or two, most of the articles appear online at www.highperformancepontiac.com.

On top of that list. There is also a 12 point leak spot on the 3rd gen. Which are both engine and transmission. Overall though it isn't bad. Nothing major failing that would cost you over $1000 in repair. This is according to the GM mostly article I read in my class(only the Dealers get this).

My 3rd gen tranny did not start to leak until around 115K. Based on the way I drove it, that was nothing short of amazing to me.

My 92 has 170,000 and the only thing thats bad was the alt. The clutch had to be replace too, but I dont think those can last that long.
