  • Passing Gear - No Power

Ok, try to imagine this for a second. Your driving down a two laned highway doing about 50mph. You come up to someone in front of you who is doing like 40-45, you go to pass, so you floor it. The car drops the gear down really low, the rpms shoot way up near 5,000, all ahile the motor sounds like its going to tear its self up, but the car doesnt increase in speed hardly at all. About 2-4 seconds later, the car will kick the gear back up and a little more power will come into play. What could be the problem? The car is not dropped the gear down properly? Dropping too low perhaps? How do I fix this?

    Thanks ...

Sorry I don't know how to fix the problem, but I know exactly what you mean because that happens to me too occasionally. Sometimes it gets really bad, almost like the car is in neutral or something. Then when it shifts back, the car jumps forward. Anyway I've noticed that the car usually does this more after it has been driven hard. Also, when I tried using 91 octane for one tank of gas, I don't recall this happening Anyone have some ideas?

If you have a 2.8 multi port FI there is a lag in the top end. It's just one of those things. The gearing in the 700 R4 trans has alot to do with it as well.
