  • Disc brake covers

I got a 92 Firebird with front disc brakes and rear drum setup. About five years ago I tracked down some 15 in. turbo rim wheels, the Knight Rider style that have a silver mag wheel with a black plastic cover piece. The problem is that the front discs spew alot of brake dust on the front mags that are trapped behind the wheel covers and genrally look like crap making me take the covers off and clean the wheels about every other week. I understand a product exists that covers the front disc to prevent dust from getting all over the wheels. This product however eludes me. They are available on the internet for every import model you can think of but I can't find one for a 3rd gen f-body. I try to limit the removal of my centercaps as much as possible due to the fact they are held to the wheel by slowing cracking 20 year old plastic posts, and it is a nightmare trying to replace the center caps, i've already lost one so I know. If anyone knows where to find such a product I would love to know.

    Thanks

    Hey, welcome to the board.

I have tried these things and they do cut down on the amount of cleaning that you will do. However, you're going about it the hard way. Brake dust shields are universal fit. Just find one that has a five lug pattern and fits 14 or 15 inch wheels and you're all set.
I found mine at Pep Boys for $15
I have heard that dust shields can possibly damage your brakes by not allowing enough air to flow over them, but I wouldn't know for sure, I took mine off.....
