  • Swapping to 5.0L

    If I have a '92 Firebird w/a 3.1L engine, 700R4 tranny, can I do a straight swap from that to a trusted used TPI 5.0L that has the engine, TPI setup, computer and wiring?

    Sure, as long as you have a V8 tranny, mounts, etc on hand. I think it'll need a new radiator too.

      Yeah, I asked a while back about a swap, and someone said that I'd have to switch trannys, but I've noticed a lot of 305's and 350's mated to a 700R4. What's the deal with the radiator though?

        Well, you still have to change tranny's. We have a 60* motor. AS for the radiator, it is a bigger engine the 3.1.

          you need a bigger radiotor to handle the cooling of a bigger motor and i believe only the bell housing is different between the v6 and v8 automatic tranny

            and new engine harness, and tach(if you allready have one), & e-check exemption. Don't forget all the accessories that go w/the V8. & if you do go ahead, use the 350, more power available per mod.

              :D He doesn't really need the emissions equipment. They don't do tests or inspections in Oklahoma. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

                man i wish i didnt have emissions checks here ....... :( hell what i would do in your situation is pick up a nice carbed 350 . ditch the computer slap in a turbo 350 trans and your set [img]smile.gif[/img] of course , i wouldnt do any of this if it were my daily driver

                  re-read your first post. since you have the motor, harness & computer, spend the $$ & get a tranny w/the correct bellhousing & a service manual. This will provide you w/all the neccessary wiring diagrams. Relocate motor mounts on frame, buy new V8 mounts remember. then think about headers & what not.
