I dont know what to do with my car. There's almost 170k miles, and the engine is starting to leak oil on the dirvers side, just below the spark plugs (I think). Then it drips onto the exhaust and burns up. I've only had to put one quart of oil in over 3 months.

I'd spent a lot of time on this car. I would hate to just junk it away. I've called around here in utah about swapping a v8 in there, and most people said it'll be hard to find someone to do the work, let alone it's illegal. It wont pass emmissions if there's a different engine in there than stock. It starts at anything from 1984 and lower will pass, but any car 85+ the laws apply.

I looked into supercharging a new v6 engine but could only find chargers for the years 88+ .. And at this point I dont know what I should do.

Welcome to the board :D
85 Firebird, nice choice ;)

Have you checked the valve cover gasket? I know getting them off is a bytch  .

There is also, if you do want a more powerful engine & still pass emissions, the 2.8-3.4 swap. I'm on the homestretch of mine.

I think the main reason for the 88+ motors, and make sure it's not just for fwd cars, is I believe they went to just the serp belt, & not the two like ours.

Or if you have some cash to spend and don't mind keeping the 2.8, just take it to a local engine shop and have it rebuilt. For my 3.1 I was quoted anywhere from $450 to $700. (And have them put in the Crane 2030 cam while they're at it!)
Then you would pass emissions and not have any major problms for another 150,000+ miles.

3.4 slow to go

That's awsome.. a 94 engine. I noticed that seeing your signature a lot but never thought about it..

Where could I find out more on doing that ? I figure I'll start calling auto wreckers and look for a used 94 engine. But I rather buy a newer v6 engine for the car if possible. I want most power and life.

unless you have a good welder & have some stock laying around to fab motor mounts, 93-95 f-bodies are the only donor cars avialable. Here is the template: 2.8-3.4 swap boogie

I'm doing a variation of it by using the 3.4 serp belt setup & exhaust manifolds. The heads are the same, except the 3.4 have newer (read stronger) springs & a better cam profile.

Here's the main thread of my swap, split it up later oninto more smaller posts.
