This is for a '92 RS (305). Put a rebuilt t-5 in over the summer. Synchronizer problems already. Since I have to drop the trans again, instead of putting another weak T-5 in it, thinking about getting a Richmond t-10 5-speed.
Looks like the shifter will be a little further back and to the left, so I'll probably need to work on the console and tunnel.
Can't tell yet about the overall length. Will the driveshaft work? Will it match the crossmember?
I'll "sneak" out of study time, actually I'm sick , but anywho....how was the t5 rebuilt? to factory spec? if so, there is the problem. There are better upgrades, including the World Class T-5. I believe it has beefier bushings & bearings. I have some back issues of HPP mag that go theu the build up. Also, what mods, if any, have you done to the motor to create more power?

It was purchased from Autozone... I looked everywhere locally for someone to rebuild it, and nobody does. It's for my son's car. He lives with me while he is finishing his 14 months at the Auto/Diesel College.
I believe it is a "World Class". We tried to order a cheaper one, because he thought he was going to sell or trade the car. When Autozone tried to phone in the order, the place wouldn't accept it for an RS, said we had to order the more expensive one. (it was like $1300 or so.)
As far as mods, his car is a stock RS - 305 TBI. We had to replace the rear end when a tooth broke out of the pinion gear. I think it's geared a little higher now, but we didn't check the ratio. Doesn't pull as good, and the speedo reads way low... As his three tickets can attest... Also not an lsd. Has a flowmaster muffler. No other mods.
We had to do the dreaded fuel pump a few months ago too... Oh yeah, we have put a 160 thermostat in it, and now an automatic fan switch mounted in the radiator too.
The rebuild would not go from 3rd up to 4th, without pausing in neutral, without trying to grind. It will not downshift from 5th to 4th at all, sounds like the d*mn thing is going to come apart if you try to force it. It's only gotten worse. It's still under warranty for about 6 more months, and we think we can just get a refund, and that's when my son started talking about getting an entirely different tranny to put in it. He didn't realize the customization that might be required though.
I think ricmond makes trannys with a t-5 bellhouse bolt pattern, but the richmond 5 speed tranny dosen have overdrive(5th is 1:1) so you woulden't want a high rear gear

yup, just found one of my 30 or so back issues of HPP mag where they rebuild a T-5. says they were only rated too handle 305lbs of tq. It does go over a better way rebuilding. Might want to get one done @ a race shop, designed to last & what not.

Is it the transmissions fault or your sons? You may want to consider an automatic.

Yeh, we gave up on the t-10 idea. It needed a bellhousing, crossmember, shifter, tunnel mods, all kinds of stuff. I did find there are some conversion kits to put a t-56 in there. Mostly crossmember and vss connection are the main things with it.
Richmond Gear said the t-56 could work, but suggested their ROD (Richmond Overdrive) as a direct replacement. All it needed was a yoke. But I'm not planning to put a $3000 transmission in the car...
I think I will just get another t-5. Peformance Unlimited, and Fortes, are some of the sites with listings for t5's that look pretty good.
The rebuild that we put in over the summer was bad out of the box... But good enough to get by for a while. He did learn to drive a stick with this car, but the original tranny was pretty bad already when we first got the car a couple of years ago. I think if the rebuild had been a good one, everything would have been ok.
Hello every one, ozzy here ive been looking at this page for weeks now finally joined. So my question is why is it that every turbo build forum just ends...
