  • My body moldings are molding!

I need some help on finding a particular body accessory. I posted in this colum because its easier to explain 3rd gen parts to 3rd gen people. On my 91 RS there are side body moldings that go from the back of the front wheel well, and acrossed the middle of the doors. Well, mine are getting these while spots and black spots and lookin like crap. Ive tried to find replacements but evidently I dont know what to look up. You guys know what Im talkin about? Any help would be appriciated.

And another thing, has anyone had the gas filler neck recall taken care of? I havent gotten around to it and Im wondering if it might have something to do with my license tag problems

You talking about the trim that starts on the front fender right behind the wheel well, about six inches from the door, and runs about 6inches past the door(3rd gen right)? I guess it's just called a trim piece or a body molding thing. I need the same trim for my 99 on the driver side front fender.

salvage yard maybe? jc whitney has some kits for third gen, but not the mouldings individually.

I'll look around and see if I can find one for you. But don't be expecting any miracles. You might try sending an email to the guys at http://www.fparts.us/. They primarily deal with 4th Gen Fbodies and all Vettes, but they might have seomthing for you. They said they had the 4th gen trim I was looking for, and it would be $12 plus shipping. Try local dealers and all the salvage yards you can find. Try a quick scan of ebay, you might find a whole fender for cheap. There are a couple salvage yards near my house that had between 4 and 10 3rd gens each, weather permitting, I'll check them this weekend and let you know something. Also try http://www.thirdgen.org/, they might be able to hook you up with something. I had a 92 Firebird with a busted bumper cover, and everywhere I checked, wanted 600+ for just the cover. These guys had it for half that.

Hey CK, I'm gonna try to run out tommorrow and check, but I'm still not making any promises. It's supposed to be like 0-10 degrees tomorrow. And ice + snow = no fun. What trim pieces do you need? All of the driver side? All of the trim? Just one piece? What? And how much are ya willing to spend? If I can't get out to do it tomorrow, it will have to wait till next Friday. I'll do what I can though.

Thanks a ton, I really appriciate that. I need both driver and passanger side trim pieces, just the parts that go down the door will be fine. Im looking for pieces in really good condition (bright red if you can find it) cause otherwise ill just have mine sealed and repainted. Dont kill my pocket book but ill pay whatever.

CK, Good news bad news. The bad news: One of the yards I was gonna check is tellin' me that they dont have any red Camaros. So that's one down. Last time I was there, they had about 4 F-bodys. The good news: the other yard might still have one. When I was there , I distinctly remember a bright red one. There was a stack of 3 F-bodys, one on top of the other. The bottom one I believe was the red one, so, it should still be there. The bad news(again): I don't remember how to get there. Dad will have to take me. I do know it's over 50 minutes away on some back roads, and the guy wont answer his phone, never has. If the guy wants more than 20 bucks for them, my guess is that it would be cheaper to just paint yours and then clear coat them and stick them back on. It would just be cheaper.

Dang, I dont want you getting molested on any country back roads or anything for my trim pieces. Them salvage yard people can be kinda off if you know what i mean. If its too much of a hassel dont worry about it. I can live with a few spots. If that red one you find has a highrise z28 spoiler on it (good condition), grab that too if you would, and maybe a perfectly intact 350 or 427, and while your at it wanna hook me up with a NOS wet set and........ :D Just kiddin. Thanks for all your effort.
