  • Crane Compucam/Powermax cam is a waste!

I installed the Crane Powermax cam, the that is suppose to be the biggest you can get that the computer will allow. What a joke. No difference in quarter mile times. I gained 10lb of torque but the horsepower stayed the same except it dropped in the rpm. Before I had max hp at 5400 now it's at 4700 so I have to shift a lot sooner. Luckily I was rebuilding the engine anyway and wasn't doing this just for the cam, though when I got my engine apart I saw that it didn't need any rebuilding but at least I know it is ready for more horsepower...bigger shot and supercharger, I'm sick of having this slow a$$ car.

I also raised the fuel pressure during the rebuild so I'm going to bring it back down and see if it likes that better.

you might want to see about a cam custom ground to take full advantage of the nitrous shot, but since your going to charge it, look into one for that. take full advantage of what's going on the engine. caint remember what the specs are, but how does the comp cams powermax compare to the 3.4 cam?

This cam is the one for 2.8/3.1/3.4. The only bad thing about getting a custom ground cam is that this car will have to pass smog so it needs to be within tolerance. The supercharger won't be hard to disconnect for smogging but a cam would.

I say custom ground, I also say get those heads and intake ported, that big cam will not work right unless it gets a lot of air in and out quick and our stock heads flow as much air as a straw.
I will be going with a custom, best way to go IMHO

I love autocrossing but this year I'm going to be drag racing the entire season instead, I might go once for fun. And that's all autocrossing is, for fun, there is no money involved. Drag racing there is a chance to win $200 a day, autocrossing you can't even win back your entry fee. They have started up a new autocrossing league that's not SCCA so I might go and see what they're about.
