• 3.4 slow to go, I need a favor...

I installed the 3.4 a while ago, etc, etc. I used the 2.8 accessories just because it was easier and I ran out of time. I need to change over to the 3.4 accessories but I don't want to use the A/C since I will be installing a strut tower brace and I think that it will be in the way. Which belt did you use? Anything else I should know?
Thanks,
Jim

a/c on the 3.4 sits below the alt. This will not interfere w/a stb. However, jus make sure the stb will fit before installing

With my set up, using non-factory a/c delete, I used a 685K6 belt. REAL Tight. eEasiest way to put it o was the water pump last, as the the lip on the alt pulley is a bytch    . How tight you ask? I used a large dia flat head screw driver as a lever, & a hammer to slide the belt on underneath the w/p pulley. The tensioner still showed the correct wear marks so that's all good.

Can you send me any pics of the pulley setup? I have the brackets (I hope all of them) but I can't remember what goes where. Any help would be appreciated. If you have to, email me the pics. Also, do you know if the 3.4L block is the same block that was used in the 3.4L DOHC that came in those Z34 Luminas? I have acquired one but it is a '90 while the 3.4 I already have is a newer block.

couple probs w/the fwd block:

1) You need to make/weld up new motor mounts
2) I believe the starters are on different sides. (not positive though)
3) I've never heard anything to contridict this: "DOHC 3.4s are a royal bytch to work on/repair.

I'll see about pics, either posted here or thirdgen.

Are there support bars attached to the back of the alternator and power steering pump? And thanks for the pic.

I do have support bars on the alt, but none on the p/s pump.

Ok, one last thing. Is there a difference in height between where the altenator sits using the 2.8L brackets compared with the 3.4L brackets? I am looking for the one that sits lower so I will not have issues with the strut tower brace. And out of curiosity, did you notice any difference between the 2.8 and 3.4?
Thanks,
Jim

I think the 3.4 alt accually sits a bit lower. shouldn't be any stb probs what so ever.

As far as teh difference between the 2.8 & the 3.4........ since the 2.8 never ran, would just crank, and the 3.4 actually runs. I'll give the 3.4 about 10000000% in improvement ;)
