Hey kids. . .my passenger side power window is on it's way out. How hard is it to replace the motor? Is there a possible rebuild?

Are you sure the motor itself is going out? If you haven't already, pop off the door liner and make sure everything is where it should be, all the connections are right and nothing is loose in there. I looked at a car that the windows would only go up and down whenever it felt like it it seemed and the only problem was a loose wire to the motor. If the motor is indeed going I'd hate to see what a new one would cost. GM rips us off hardcore on some of these parts. (Firebird headlight motors)

call around to autoparts stores. I think AZ has a replacement for like $60 or so w/lifetime warranty.

If its shot, try the junk yards first. Might be able to find a motor there even though you prolly wont be able to test it. Worth a shot. If you end up with a dud, your out 5 bux.

What's really **** -eyed is this only happens in the summer. During the cooler times of the year, the window goes up and down like normal, but when it's warmer, it's noticeably slower and sometimes will stop mid-raise and I'll let off the button for about 30-45 seconds and it'll go up a lil' more and stop and I'll end up repeating this process over and over again until the window's up. I kinda' wondered if it was a connection in there someplace or--at a long shot--the fuse, but ruled that out since the fuse runs other stuff that works just fine.

No, your motor is not shot. If you hear the noise, you have to think that there is something in there that is the source of the noise. The only possible solution is the motor makes the noise. My guess at your problem is that the regulator is bad. The regulator is the brackets that look like a large pair of scissors. The regulator controls the upward and downward movement of the window. The gear on the motor meshes with a gear plate attached to the regulator. If the teeth are bent or misshapened on one end of the gear plate, it will cause problems. Also, if debris is trapped in the channels, it will hinder the window's movement. The channels are the guides that keep the window in place as it moves up and down.
