i've been looking into buying a 3rd gen w/ a 350 but most of them are auto's. i love my manual firebird i'd hate to give up that feeling but i want a big engine. i'm starting to think maybe its worth it to just get an auto and be happy i've got a 350 under my hood. also i've always wanted to be able to chirp tires shifting from first to second an auto wouldn't do that would it? (assuming i give it some mods)

if you put in the right shift kit it would ;)
let's time this to see f it's moved to the 3rd gen forum for some reason?
If you plan to mod the 350 to more than 300hp, the 5sp will become a big paperweight unless worked up.1978 Formula 461 in progress of being built

All of them are autos.
GM didn't make a production version of the 3rd gens with 350's and 5spds. The 5spd they used at the time couldn't handle the power of the 350. If you want a manual, why not get one with a good 350 and blown trans and swap in a T56 6spd or the like?

Although it may get a better response in the lounge, I agree with Nate - off to Third Gen. -->
91firebird - feel free to move this back to the lounge if you feel it's appropriate. www.RedLineVSix.com || 1996 Camaro, 15.159@92.5mph

I'd say stick with an auto, I really love banging gears when I get the chance but the peace of mind that a solid 4 700R4 would give me would outweigh the fun of a 5 or 6 speed. Autos are a lot easier to launch too if you're not too experienced racing a stick and even then you may mis-shift or something where an auto will never do that unless something REALLY bad is happening. I'd love to get my 3.1 to chirp the tires going to 2nd but I'm sure it'd require on heck of a shift kit.

silvertaws6 is right. The manuals couldn't handle the 350 if dogged. Just stay with an auto 700R4 and put a shift kit in it like I did. It chirps my tires pretty well when it shifts from 1st to second gear when I'm going WOT in overdrive. But you dont want to do it all the time.2003 Nissan 350Z Touring Coupe, Daytona Blue, Frost leather interior, navigation, 18 inch wheels, M6, fully loaded, intake, crank pulley.

Previous cars:
1991 Mustang (347)
2002 RS Camaro
1985 IROC-Z (305)
1994 Camaro convertible V6

i think i might go with this though... http://www.kdsperformance.com/transhifkitd.html
since my tranny's got more than a 100+k on it...i wouldnt think of doing anything to it until its rebuilt to handle a shift kit. but thats just me 1992 Camaro RS
Performance: K/N filter and custom CAI
Stereo/Electronics: 10\" Kicker Subwoofers, DEHP-4400 Pioneer Head Unit
Maintenance: New brake lines, New transmission mount
Upcoming: Flowmaster American Thunder Catback, Catco Catalytic Converter

Trans-go is the only way to go
I allways liked 5 speed third gens, a knew a guy who had a 350 laying down 300ish rwhp and a 5 speed converstion and that thing was a BLAST to ride in  :D Black 96 Z/28, A4, T-tops, tint, 2.73 LSD, Kenwood.

Previous Camaro: Bright white 86 Camaro, MPI 2.8 A4 3.42, tint, Z-28 wheels, a few goodies.

Hey, Mike here, also I'm a Pro at this but if i'm wrong feel free to currect me, but auto is better cause its a quick shift (Best w/ Rachet) also stick u have to clutch threw a gear or two to gt up in speed and u'll lose like maybe umm .05 seconds everytime u do it??1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS in Teal

www.cardomain.com/id/whydrivestock
