My ignition switch is jacked. I went to turn my car off last night and the key would not turn back to shut off the car ... I tried everyting imaginable to turn the key off.
Where can I get a new ignition (please don't say GM) and how difficult is it to install it? (Hayes book says nothing about ignition switches).
sorry to steal the subject...but i also have a problem wit mine. altho not as urgent as digitalbee's.
mine doesnt want to turn back farthest so like jus the radio comes on. i think its called accessories. like how you have your car in lock, then pull it one place back to play your radio. anything i can do to make it work?

Is it necessary to get a "Ignition Lock & Cylinder" that has the keys w/ the little black microchip on the key? Because the generic unit would click on, but would not initiate the starter.
Unless I am blind... (which is possible), My Haynes book does not show a single thing on how to remove or install the "Ignition Lock & Cylinder" (I found out what it's called).
I am going to call the local Chevy Dealership to see what its going to cost me. The local stores do not have the correct part.
VATS is fairly easy to get rid of, all that $60 chip is is a resistor that, if it's the right resistance, lets the starter engage. Simple but effective, sorta. Anyway, on my '91 accesories is on click forward instead of one click back from off. I thought they started this on the 4th gen f-bodies, though I could be wrong.

ps, Chilton's doesn't help much either it just says "remove cylinder lock" or something like that.
