Ok, after disconnecting the battery for a day when I was waiting for the new ignition part... I went and hooked everything back up, now the engine runs like crap! It dies at every stop sign, and the idle is way wierd...
I had this same problem when I unhooked the battery. What I did was just keep driving it. After a few days it reset by it self. Ive also heard that if you let the car idle in each gear for like 5 mins it will reset. Sorry I cant be more specific.

What kind of scan tool would I need for a 1991 model? Where can I find one and about how much do they cost? I have been driving it for a few days now, and it still dies at every stop sign.
25 dollars? Are you talking about a jumper to get the codes? A scan tool runs about $130-200 and it allows you to set the IAC, unfortunatly that's all you can adjust. I would make sure you have a good connection at the solnoid, no bent pins. You may want to pull the IAC off and clean the tip and inside the TB, be very careful not to push or pull on the pindle. Also, don't let anyone tell you that it needs to be turned out a certain number of turns, our IACs don't work that way the computer has to set it.
I had the same trouble. I disconnected the battery to do a heater core replacement and when I hooked it all back up, the car ran like crap, but I'd been through this before. I just ran the car at 3/4 throttle for like 6 miles. BUT it still ran like crap, and I couldn't figure it out. So, as a last resort before taking it to a mechanic, I ran some Slick 50 Fuel System Cleaner through about 1/2 to 3/4 of a tank of gas and it ran just fine--no rough idle. . .nothin'. It was like magic. Try the cheap stuff, before you try the expensive route.
