I've been doin' some reading and it says that to use the car's own diagnostic panel for troubleshooting codes, to use a "short jumper". I realize that it's just a wire, but is this a wire you buy at like AZ or PepBoys special made for the diagnostic panel, or is it just a random $.02 piece of wire?

You can use almost anything to jump between the two pins, even a paper clip. It's better to use something you can clip on or plug in so that you don't have to hold on to it while you are retreiving codes.
