ok, i have an 87 trans am with a 140moh speedo and i can find anything about the interchangability (had to coin a new word for that) of the third gen dashes. i have a '92 v6 and just by appearance, they look identical other than a 6k tach and a 140 speedo. any thoughts? i don't want to put it in and start the car and smell ecm burning or anything.
well, the needles will read wrong on it- meaning if youre doing like 40 real life, itll prob read about 50-60 or something i think. you'd have to swap gauge clusters i think or something like that. im no expert on these by any means, but you can always try thirdgen.org. search their database in transmissions and drivetrain and see what comes up. or you could also search in the general tech area of that site too.
just trying to steer you in the right direction ;)

i slapped the entire 87 t/a cluster in today to see how it read. the voltameter reads lower than it should. and the tach needle movement is the same as the other but the facing on the tach is different so its thrown off. i didn't go for a ride to check the speedometer since i didn't even bolt in the cluster but my guess is that it'll run the same as the tach, like you said. it could be fixed by a transmission shop but that's going to have to wait awhile. thanks for the reply, theres alot of third gen info out there but usually not what i'm looking for.
well, you're gonna have better luck than I will w/that 88/89 cluster I have. Apparently a speedo cable and real VSS don't mix :(
