  • Where to Buy a 3.1L

Does anyone know where I can find a decent 3.1L V6 egine that needs to be rebuilt so that I can slowly build it up with as much performance as it can handle, then when the time is right, swap out the motors in my car.

I am tired of the problems with the current motor, with the clicking, and ticking...etc

    Thanks,

TA Creations sells used f-body engines. You should take a look at their inventory, but don't forget to factor in the extra cost of shipping. If you are going to the trouble to swap engines, how about starting with a 3.4L? You could probably get away with it without the smog inspectors even noticing since the engines are similar. In fact I think there is even a CA member on thirdgen.org with a swapped 3.4 engine.

Why just get an engine? I've got a perfectly good firebird right here (we all know the birds are faster anyway! :D ) Seriously, good luck with the search.

If you do an engine swap. Get a 305 or 350. There are many of them out there from the 3rd gens. I got my IROC from my friend, he swapped a normal 305 for the 305 H.O. for only 300 bucks.

The problem with swapping in a V8 engine is that it isn't legal to do in CA. You can try to get a permit to swap in a bigger engine, but I've heard it isn't easy. That's why I mentioned there was a third gen in CA with a 3.4, because it passes smog even though it is tested as a 2.8 (and since the engines are so similar, the inspectors don't even notice the difference).

Yeah and its more of a pain to swap in a 8. KED 85 lives in CA so is swap was emmisions legal. Id get that 3.4, port the heads and 2.8 or 3.1 intake, add a nice emmisions cam and throw a nice exhaust on and have a fun car :D
