  • Is there a place I could get headlight motors?

I've checked e-bay and they got one for $75 dollars each. Is that a right price for that?

Also, are they easy to install?

    Thanks

Are you sure its just not striped gears?

I don't know I haven't had time to check into it. If it is, what is the remedy for that?

They make rebuilds to replace the stripped gears. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Have you checked to make sure that its not the control module, wiring, or fusible links? You need to make sure that you have power going to the motors before you buy new ones. A voltmeter is all you need. Besides, $75 a piece is kind of high. I sell mine for $40 a piece plus shipping and I do have an extra set right now.

If it's just the stripped gear, you should try the free fix first. Does the headlight motor sound like it's still trying to close for about 6 seconds after it is all the way closed (or open). I had to do the free fix on my 97 Firebird and it has been working great since. I've never had a problem with the third generation headlights, but I'd imagine the setup is similar, if not exactly the same. Check out this site for the free fix (its towards the bottom of the page)

Thanks again for the info. Now I know by how you guys describe it, that it is definately a stripped gear.

Jerriko, I might take you up on that offer. But I need to try something first.

            Thanks

Just curious by why do they call it a 'free fix'? I love the idea but the brass gears obviously aren't free.

Click the link in my last post and scroll all the way down. The last section decribes the free fix. Basically you get the motor to use the good side of the existing gear. You don't have to buy anything and it is easy to do.

Those motors from GM parts are a total rip off, like almost 200 a piece last time I checked. Got a kit and just replaced the nylon gears while I was in there. Nothing as satisfying as your rebuilt headlights just *snap* into place :D
