  • Gear swap and success, kind of...

Just this past weekend I decided to swap the rear end in the firechicken. The old one had failing c-clips accompanied with debris in the case. I didn't bother to check the gear ratio in the new one until after I drove it (don't ask why). Anyways, the car came to life and was so much faster. I discovered that the old one was 283 (44/15) and the new one was a 323 (44/13). What a difference those two extra teeth on the pinion gear make. I tried explaining that to the cop who pulled me over but it was water under the bridge. I will finally be dropping the overhauled and improved 3.4 in this weekend, next weekend at the latest and get it down to the track. With mods to the 3.4, I am expecting 14s.
Word of the wise, don't do 90mph in a 45pmh with a cop on your butt and not expect to get a ticket (I really didn't see him there).
    Jim
