hey guys ive got a 1989 camaro 2.8 L. Its been wanting to die with me. Especially when I come up to a stop and or slow up to a stop. The rpms will fall and pick back up. If I have it in park it will idle fine but when I put in reverse or drive it acts like it wants to die. If I turn the steering wheel it will do the same. The code says maf sensor but ive changed that and egr valve, throttle pos sens., throttle air sens.,plugs, wires, distributor w/rotor button, new battery w/cables. Any ideas?

Which code was it setting, 33 or 34? 33 is too high of a frequency detected and 34 is too low of a frequency detected.
Either way, a couple of things to check for:
-damaged air duct between the MAF and the throttle body
-wiring harness and connector of the MAF
-air filter
-MAT (mass air temperature sensor) and related connectors. It is mounted in the side of the airbox.
-Obstructions in the airbox

Codes for an 85 car , may/may not work, but should give you a good starting point. Hows your timing?1978 Formula 461 in progress of being built

Ok, it sets 34 which means that too low of a frequency was detected by the computer. That narrows it down. But this code doesn't mean that if you can't find anything wrong with the MAF, that you just ignore the code. Several different problems can cause that code to go off.
-Bad connection and/or bad wiring (any corrision in the connector will increase the resistance which in turn decreases the signal voltage)
-vacuum leak (the computer compares the signal from the MAF to the O2 sensor. If the MAF detects X amount of air coming it, the O2 sensor will expect Y amount of exhaust going out. This information is calculated in the computer. If the amounts don't match, it sets the code. The vacuum leak will also create a lean condition.)
Remember, code 34 basically says that you have a lean condition because more air is pumping through the engine than the computer thinks. The MAF lets the computer know the amount of air entering the engine.

Machined caps are threaded in a manner that when the bolt is inserted and teh nut is tighten, it creates a seal. The material that the stock caps are made out of is not thick enough to create a good seal. I do like the idea of using the spacer. I have also heard of people crushing the cap slighty to achieve the same effect. How long did it take you to find the right spacer?
