  • Cat Converter Removal

My Cat converter is rotten and there is stuff rattling around inside it. I am going to remove it and replace it with a piece of exhaust pipe until smog time next year.

What kind of performance increase (if any) will I see. Are there any negatives to doing this rather than replacing the cat converter?

You won't see any gains and you'll probably sound ricey once you get above 3k or so. :(

Yes, I agree. It will produce a ricer sound. If you hollow out the cat, it even sounds worse. Best bet is to replace it.

I hollowed out the cat onmy old 77 T/A and it gave it a mellower tone. better jsut keep the hollow cat on so you can at lest passa visual inspection in case officer friendly decides to go snooping around your car for any felony items (yes, convertor removal *is* a felont, if caought.
