Whenever my car is warm and I come to a stop I notice that the "power meter" or "alternator meter" (whatever it is called), will fluctuate back in forth 2-4 volts. It did this before I replaced my alternator and it is doing the exact same thing now that I have replaced it. This happens even with my stereo and headlights off.
Is there something wrong that could be causing this? Something I should replace?
I don't think that is a charging system problem. You engine isn't running right. The reason the voltmeter oscillates 2-4 volts is because the belt speed of the alternator is fluctuating.
-Does your engine at idle sound iradic?
-Does the rpms also climb and fall at a rate consistant with the volt meter?
Any number of computer controlled items such as IAC, MAF, O2, etc. Easiest way to find them is with the engine hot and running, unplug each item one at a time. If the engine evens out, then that would be your problem. Take note that unplugging the O2 sensor will set your car into open loop removing computer control from the engine. Do that one last. My guess would be the MAF, try that one first. You can also unplug the alternator and then start the engine to verify that the charging system is not at fault.
:D
That's because you don't have one. Our cars are a speed density system. It determines the amount of air flow through presets which it collects from various sensors.
I havent checked the other sensors yet, I wanted to check the MAP Sensor first, however, I am unable to locate the MAP Sensor. According to Autozone, the sensor is located just above the passenger side valve cover.
Could anyone show me a picture or an illustration showing its location?
My car had the same problem a while back, and it turned out, the battery was bad. Have you checked your charging system yet? When I replaced my battery the problem was gone.
