I hear stories of how some Third Generation V6's have been modified to take on V8's and such, I would like to know how they do that.

I would like to modify my v6 to have more "off the line" power. I notice that when I race someone, they almost always take me off the line. I'm almost ready to throw in the towel and find me a V8.

Any suggestions for some extra "off the line" power?

Your biggest gain for off the line umph is gears, period. But it's best to look at the whole car, induction, tq convertor, tranny, light weight driveshaft, gears, tire size/selection. Then go into your suspension. Light weight hood. etc.

I had ignition, Z-28 exhaust, induction mods, stock internals lots of weight reduction and I took 305 TBI cars :D

No offense man, but 305s are dogs. You should be able to beat them stock.

TPI??? No

TBI? Yes

Stock? No, considering I had steel wheels, and a tired 140k mile engine when I was stock. I was never into making a super fast 2.8 car. I was just happy to get mid 20mpg and hang with the 305 TPI cars that had an exhaust. At the very least I would have swaped in a moded 3.4 and have 200rwhp.

Completely agree. I am really surprised that my 2.8 has lasted as long as it has. With a little luck, I will have my moded 3.4 in this weekend. Anyways, to answer the question at hand. Gears are huge! When I changed my from 2.83 to 3.23 the difference was astonishing.

305 were dogs regardless of the fuel system.

Get some 3.42's, or look into them, I loved mine and its not overkill its just right, most 2.8 cars came with them so you can get entire rear ends with them in cheap.

A/C delete (that compressor weighs a ton!). If you can afford it get a good quality fiberglass hood, the stock steel hoods are un-godly heavy
The A/C and the hood should get you at least 75 pounds. Pulling the junk out from under the carpet also helps, if you never use the rear seats they weigh a bit or at least the back does. For the track pull the spare and jack out.

Gears, and weight reduction man, then take your intake and heads and give them a good porting or at least the intake. If your are boxes are not cut out do that to.

Normal 305's with no mods can be dogs, but watch out for the High output 305's. The IROC-Z 305 H.O. I use to have was pretty quick and would outrun my 3.8 02 RS. It had some mods, but nothing big.

Pull your air lid off (peice above your air filfers, then pull your filters, then then entire peice that hold both air filters, you will see the two square areas that hold your fiters, but as you ca see they are boxes and very air restrictive, take a hack swa and cut them out, when they are gone there will be noting restricting air flow to your filters.

An easier way to see it is go out and look at were your filters are from under the car, once you cut them out you will see air filters and not black boxes that have your engine breathing out of a straw. Then go out on the highway and punch it and you will see why it is a good mod :D .

It was the first mod I did and the first mod any third gen owner should do.

ahyes i first pulled the baffels that helped but not enough then i did cut out the bottom half of the box much better but i have taken it 1 step further and fashioned a square connection for the box that attaches to a very large tube which attaches to a air scoop on the bottom of the car now thats cold ram air my filters getdirty faster but thats only a sign that more air is traveling through them thanks just wasnt sure what boxes you were talking about

You silly camaro driver & cutting up your air boxes  The HOme Depot PVC CAI is where it's at ;)

Remember, you'll get the most out of a better intake track w/an improved exhaust.

Home Depot CAI special is best bang for the buck, hands down. I'd take that over gears even just because it's a blast to build crap and then tape it to your car! 4-banger camaro's had 3.73's stock if you want something more aggresive.
