No pigs under the hood, just a weird, high pitched squealing/buzzing noise coming from the engine while i was on the highway. I brought it back home and noticed that on my water pump pulley, the belt had slid off of where it normally would be (I could see the shiny part of the pulley) So I adjust it, and start it and it squeals and I look at it, and it's back where it was. So I turn it on, and rev it pretty high (2500 rpm) and i go back and look, and the belt's back to normal, but still squealing. I've sprayed WD-40 on it (that helped for a little bit)and done lotsa' other stuff, but now, not only does it squeal, but it has a hard time turning over. WTF??? Any suggestions?

I replaced the tensioner pulley back in May, and I just went out and re-started it and it made a HORRIBLE squealing noise and smoke started coming out from behind the water pump pulley and when I shut it off, fluid started coming out from behind the pulley and ran down to the underdrive pulley.1992 Arctic White Firebird<br />3.1L V6, TB Coolant Bypass, CAI, Turbo Muffler, other little things.<br /><br /> <a href=\"http://www.geocities.com/colinobu/MyHomepage.html\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.geocities.com/colinobu/MyHomepage.html</a> <br /><br />\". . .Finger in the air and the flag still wavin\'. . .\"

I assuming you mean antifreeze. I guess if the bearings in the water pump would that deprived of lubricate, they could scream. Have you noticed any problems with the cooling system (besides the obvious)? If water pump is the problem, the WD 40 REALLY didn't help.

Well, she's at the shop now, 'cuz I didn't wanna' deal with it, but I'm almost 100% positive it is the water pump. Yes, it was coolant running down the pullies. No, the WD-40 didn't help anything, and I knew that, but I was struggling for an answer. My car has like 175K on it, and as far as I know, its an original part. The cooling system has been cooling like normal. . .the engine will heat up to like 210* and then the thermostat will open and it'll cool back down to about 160*-180* (I've never taken the time to count all the little lines in the gage and find out what they mean--that's just a guess, but it returns to the same spot every time). I have noticed in the past however that the gage will fluctuate between about 3 or 4 lines, but it's never gotten hotter than 220*. Again, without being a mechanic, I can't be completely sure, but I am pretty positive that it's the water pump.1992 Arctic White Firebird<br />3.1L V6, TB Coolant Bypass, CAI, Turbo Muffler, other little things.<br /><br /> <a href=\"http://www.geocities.com/colinobu/MyHomepage.html\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.geocities.com/colinobu/MyHomepage.html</a> <br /><br />\". . .Finger in the air and the flag still wavin\'. . .\"
