• Too all of you 2.8ers out there...

A couple of weeks ago, I got these results out of my car at the strip:
-15.67 @ 85.1mph
That's good enough for 3rd overall in the n/a 3.4L listing on the timeslip page. It should also be noted that this pass was made without my headers installed and the trans was getting funky with the 2-3 shifts at WOT. I think the trans is fixed now. On the dyno, it works fine. Hopefully, I can get one more chance at the strip this year to see how much faster I can get her. Don't take any **** from anyone with a 3.1 or 3.4!

SO that was with the 2.8??? I wish I could have took mine to the track before it started chucking trannys, 3.42 rear, meaty tires, aluminum wheels, no A/C, spare jack, rear seats, accel ignition, all teh free mods no options. I allways thought 16's would have been very easy.

Nice time man.

Yeah, I just haven't had the time to install the 3.4 yet. With the cam I am using for the 3.4, I will need some serious tuning and reprogramming. I am currently using 3.23s.

You could go to a junk yard and find a good 3.42 rear for CHEAP!

We are covering rear ends at school and I am rebuilding a 10 bolt 3.42 F-body right now. Torsen LSD and all of the trimmings.

The main difference between the carriers is the design and the number of splines the axles have that are used with the carriers. The OEM Torsen for $100 plus shipping is the 3 series carrier. It has the same number of splines that the series 2 has but the 3 is far superior. The 1 series carrier had a different amount of splines and was found in the pre 82 GMs. Meaning this series 3 LSD is a great upgrade for the 3rd gen rear ends.

let me know when it comes in. According to the thread oin it over @ thirdgen, there might be a dispute over the axle spline count, 26 vs 28(required for the unit). And knowing my luck, I'd snap the diff cover bolts like the tranny bolts to find out.

Hmmm,
I guess I should have checked that before I ordered the part. The spline count on the axles out of the rear end from 1989 is 26. I do luckily have axles at home on a rear end from 1990. They have different gears (3.23) and a factory LSD so I am hoping that the spline count is different.

sell the gears & posi out of the 90 axle, to help pay for the gear 3.42 gear & slp posi install in the 90 axle. then put on your ride.

I went ahead and bought some Richmond gears (3.73). The runout on the old ring gear was .040". The tolerance is .000". But yes, some swapping will be necessary.
