well, i know that this gets asked often, but generally in the 4th gens, but i was wondering just how hard it would be to take out a v6 engine from an 86 and drop in a v8, does the 86 have wiring like 4th gens that needs to be changed, or is it like older cars and more of a plug and play operation. I'm sure fuel pump and spring ahve to go, and most likely the gauge cluster, but does radiator, gas tank, and suspension parts, or anything have to go? and wat about the computer if tehre is one, can that just be gutted for the most part and have an engine jsut dropped in?

THe easiest & most complete answer I cain give you is the engien swap forum @ thirdgen.org. What I cain answer here easily is:
1 There have been those who have reused their radiator, but I think they were camaros w/thier stinkin' grills
2 New fuel pump is always good. Replacement depends on what type of inducton, TPI TBI, Carb.
3 Front springs, yes. Might as well replace all bushings while you're at it ;)
4 Gas tank & rear suspension same. However, coma, if you cain, see about one of those 4th gen plastic tanks :D
5 Computer, well see fuel pump. Depends on what you plan to run.1978 Formula 461 in progress of being built

Hi, I'm new to this particular board, I haev had quite a bit of experience with this very thing. First off, you'll need a Transmission (V6 and V8 are different). Then you need a motor along with a wiring harness (if FI) and a radiator. You'll also need different front springs. If you have all of that you can do it. If You're just looking for power, swap in a 3.4L, it's easy and cheap.MODS:<br />3.4,Crower cam, K-motion valvesprings, Heddman Longtubes, BBK AFPR, Accel Coil, 36mm/23mm Sways, Boxed LCAs/Panhard bar, Mutant Nitrous wet kit, Mr. Gasket Cutout, 10.02 1/8 mile at 67.2 mph UNTUNNED no spray
