86 IROC-Z Problem

Ive noticed she has been running rough ever since i put seafoam through the vaccum line and through the gas tank.

Well today i noticed a "ticking" noise from the drivers side valve cover,and it seams to be in the back towards the firewall.

It seems like some sort of tick like metal hitting metal.

Its constant tick...tick...tick..tick.

And it runs rough and wont accelerate like normal. :(

if i were to take off the valve cover, would i be able to fix it from there? I cam take it off pretty much very easily.

Just that ive never done something like this before...

How much will a new lifter cost, an oem?

You will have to get the intake manifold off to get at the lifters.

Couldn't he use one of those hydraulic lifter mechanical arm things?

You would still have to remove the intake manifold. How would you remove the lifter through the hole for the pushrod? Or anywhere else? Plus it would be best to inspect the whole valvetrain anyways.

wow, sounds like a though job. I was thinking i would just have to remove the valve cover and BAM it would be right there.

Might just:

A) Sell it

B) Store it in my back yard and put my car cover on it, untill 2-3 years when i have enough cash to swap in another engine (LS1)

I would like to fix it, but i dont have the knowledge on going about removing the intake manifolold and going about to fixing what ever is broken.

Another taught, the car needs an oil change, if i change the oil and go with a thick oil do you guys think it will help out?

The car is still drivable, will it mess up other things if i drive it?

Dude, I went 10yrs between engine swaps, & the second time (and third time) i did them all by myself. The lifeter removal tool is designed to remove them w/o engine disasymbly. Get estimates on the job if you really dont feel up to it, or find soem peeps who know what they're doing & offer them some beer and/or pizza for doing it. Watch what they do & learn. You need to cut your teeth sometime.

Thicker weight oil can only do so much.
