Hello I have my air intake right now like many others do on the stock spot and in the same postion basically, I was wondering if anyone has tried just basically letting it hang stright down. Insted of turning it to the side, has anyone done this, and is there some set back or con to this because just by looking it seems that there would be more air picked up this way.

Intake to the GROUND?

Take a look at this site. This setup feeds air into the intake from underneath the nose of the car. It's a little different than what you mentioned, but the idea is similar:

Yeah, but if you noticed, the guy who made that intake drilled a hole to allow water to drain out. True, it defeats the purpose, 'cuz your goal is to suck in as much air as possible, but it still works. Hulk, your best bet is to get a 9 inch K&N cone filter and hook somethin' up to where your stock air cannister was. It's cheap, I did it. . .my car sounds like it's got a frickin' Hoover vacuum in the engine. It's great.
BTW: don't get a big filter and let it hang down-exposed. . .that's bad news bears1992 Arctic White Firebird<br />3.1L V6, TB Coolant Bypass, CAI, Turbo Muffler, other little things.<br /><br /> <a href=\"http://www.geocities.com/colinobu/MyHomepage.html\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.geocities.com/colinobu/MyHomepage.html</a> <br /><br />\". . .Finger in the air and the flag still wavin\'. . .\"

Ok great thanks for all the replys, I have a few questions tho, you said to get a 9 inch filter? 9 inch what, and where can I order it at ? Also I was in the car wash today and my car seemd to be idling really low and it just died ? Could that be related to my CAI ?

You can order that filter from most any auto parts store. . .I got mine from Martel Brothers Racing outta' Houston (I think). It's just a 9" K&N CAI filter. It tapers towards the bottom and has a rubber cap on the end of it. . .about $40. Your car's rough idle could certainly be your CAI. Did you drill a hole (or was one already provided) for your MAF Sensor? If not, that's your problem. You have to set it up roughly like your stock intake. . .that sensor that was in that cylindrical cannister has to be implemented in your new intake somewhere, preferrably near where your filter will suck air. I had to drill a hole for it, and I can't remember how big the hole was, but I think I got the instructions from thirdgen.org.1992 Arctic White Firebird<br />3.1L V6, TB Coolant Bypass, CAI, Turbo Muffler, other little things.<br /><br /> <a href=\"http://www.geocities.com/colinobu/MyHomepage.html\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.geocities.com/colinobu/MyHomepage.html</a> <br /><br />\". . .Finger in the air and the flag still wavin\'. . .\"

I was a victom of water in the filter. I had one of those blus $20 jobs from Auto Zone. Leets jsut say that the IAT got fried, blue streaks in the pvc intake, & blue water was getting sucked into the engine. Idles crappy until the IAT sensor was replaced. Make sure your intake is splash resisant.1978 Formula 461 in progress of being built

Hello, I dont use a 45 degree tube all I used was the rubber piece so I have nothing really to drill into, so all I did was stick the sensor inside the filter, my fliter never has gotten wet nor should it so I dont see a problom with this way, thanks for all the help tho it seems to be idling much better, just wondering what my next mod should be ! My friends mom hit my drivers side fender and messed up my bumper cover so I ordered a Trans/Am GTA cover for 175 w/free shipping and got a GM Fender used for 80, not bad when I got 1,000 from the insurence company:) Anyone know where I can find the fog lights for the Trans/Am GTA bumpercover?
