what about flywheel and damper(harmonic balancer)??

do i just put the 3.1 damper on the 3.4 or keep the 3.4 damper on the 3.4???

also do I have to get teh flywheel machined or anything or do I just have to swap boogie it to the 3.4?

also, I dont have to mess with the pushrods do I? when i took the carberated intake form one 2.8 to the other I had to pull the pushrods out...i think.

also, the plug thing still isnt clear to me. i have to pull the one from the 3.1 and use it in the 3.4???

i will have to buy a 3.1 gasket set too right. $50 or so???

sorry for asking too many questions. we will try to do the swap in a weekend(not likely to happen flawless though) and hopefully in two weekends for sure. I just need to know as much as I can before I get my hands dirty. I have a 3rd gen camaro manual so that should help too.

keep the harmonic dampner & the flexplate/flywheel from the 3.4. Get it machined true while out.

The only time you mess w/the pushrods should be if you pull the heads. When I did my intake gaskets, I just cut them where it said to, & gooped them up w/sealant to make sure it seals. The base manifold for the 3.1 & the 3.4 are the same.

Buy the gasket set for the 3.1, yes.

The plug, ............ if you look at the rear of the pass head on the 3.4, you will see the pipe plug, caddy corner from the sensor on the front of the drivers side head.

so keep the harmonic balancer on the 3.4, but have the flywheel machined??? what do I tell a machinist i want done to the flywheel. I dont have to machine the balancer right(if that is even possible)

does teh 3.4 come w/a flywheel or flexplate? You'll want to keep it 3.4.

If the flywheel is 3.4, take it to a ranny shop. they'll machine the surface of it true so it wont chatter/fudge up when you shift.

ohhh, so the 3.1 flywheel wont work then?? ok

gaskets, balancer, swap exterior engine parts(intake, alt, ps, water pump, oil pan, etc. ) put back together with new injectors and stuff, to the swap boogie, swap plugs at back of head, machine 3.4 flywheel, redo all gaskets, except for head gaskets. I think I got it,

oh, one more question. will teh 3.1 starter work on the 3.4 or will I have to get a 3.4 starter? umm that should be it. thanks again man!!!

i told him to look for a 3.4 but it he finds a 3.1 then we'll just swap that. thanks everyone else that put up with all my questions...

junk yards cost way to much for one of these things(3.4) i was quoted 800 -$1000 for the engine. do you think they would have anything cheaper anywhere else. checked the nickle ads, but didnt find anything.

also, will a 3.4 out of a monte carlo or a lumina work too>???

No. The FWD engines require TOO much customization to get it to work. It would be cool to install a DOHC motor in the Fbody but the work would not be worth it.

Just an FYI my friend found an engine shipped for $400 and was about to buy it when the guy that owned the car called me up and said he didnt pay rent for where the car was being stored. The guy who owned the property stripped the car of everything and had it crushed. He thought the owner abandoned it, hence moving to portland and not paying rent for 8 months.

so yeah, no go on the camaro. thanks for your guy's help and info though. i will retain that knowledge forever.

                        1. Ease of conversion, all you do (mainly) is swap long blocks.

                        2. Emmissions, some places pop the hoods to verify the engine

                        3. Cost. you also keep the V6 springs, mounts, tranny, etc.....
