  • Got a potentially serious problem

Easy fix though, one way or the other. My gas gauge's spring has become unsprung. . .I think. The reason I think this is because when I turn off my car, all the other gauges go back to their "minimum" positions, except the gas gauge and it just stays where it was at instead of going back to the "E" which is where I fear I'll be before too long if I can't tell how much gas I have. My question is: has anyone ever tightened that spring, or is it a job for a shop?

Well, after drivin' around, I put gas in my car and the needle went towards the "F", so my gauge is still relatively accurate, but what I also noticed is that when I start the car, the other gauges will spaz at their "redline" and then return to their normal spots. . .all but the gas gauge. . .so for now, the problem is okay. I'm guessin' this is now an electrical problem.

some cars actually do that w/thier gauges when starting. But it sounds like it's new for you cluster. AS soon as I get the bugs worked out in my swap, hopefully this week, I'll try to give you a better answer.
