  • Saggy headliner

My car is now 12 years old, and my headliner has started sagging pretty bad. Has anyone ever fixed these in any way? I used to have an older car that this happened to and-at the time-it cost $150. I know it's mostly a matter of removing plastic pieces from around the door frame and such, but what about the dome light and the seat belt guides?

The dome light has to clips that you just pry off and the seat belt guides snap on and off. Just take it easy because the little plastic clips in those guides can break.

Thanks. I've noticed there are a lot of "plastic things" that can break if you force 'em. I'll give it a whirl.

My uncle had a trim shop and used to replace those pretty reasonably. I would check around trim shops and they can just install a new headliner. The rolls of the material is cheap, if you get everything off, just find a supplier for some of the material and order it in.

It's just a matter of cutting it to fit and spraying it with glue(i think they sell headliner specific stuff at autozone/advance/oreilly's) and then putting it back in.

I'll bet if you did it yourself, you are looking at about $30 for materials plus your time.

When I recovered my headliner, I used that blue craft adheasive from Hobby Lobby. I don't reccomend it for this purpose. I'm gonna have to rebond teh cloth to the headliner & this time I'm gonna shell out the $8 for that elmers spray glue. THAT should hold.

Rebonding the cloth is easy, jsut takes some patience to make sure that you don't end up w/wrinkles & stuff.

I was just gonna' take it down, take the old cloth off, and re-glue the original cloth onto the same headliner piece. There's no holes or anything wrong with the current one.

that spray on glue works badass on the headliner, I used it on my 3rd gen and it's still sticking up to this day I highly recommend it. Like 3.4 said it just takes some patience especially w all the stick azz glue spray which can be fustrating.

ive heard from a few guys that if you ust the original headliner it wont bond as well as a new one. the reasons they gave me was that it has glue on it already and that old glue keeps the new stuf from sticking to the fabric as well. its not that much for the new material so i would say shell out the dough on this one. i had to do it in my dads BMW last year, its not that hard but you deffinately need to smooth it out and keep it as wrinkle free as possible while you put it up. Elmers spray glue is your best friend for this project. good luck.
