  • Point to electric distributor conversion question

How easy is it to convert a point type distributor to an electronically controlled ignition. If anyone's done it recently, I just want to know basic procedure, general cost, and what brand equipment is most reccommended. Thanks.

I used the Mallory unilite conversion on my old Studebaker. Quite simple, about an hour if you're blind, and ran soooooooooooooo much better. it was about $107 from Summit back in '94

Ok, the the studie was easy to do. Any ideas on the camaro? All it entails is removal of coil and distributor and replacing with ignition control and coil packs, or am I confused?

installation instructions for gm points to unilite conversion. Again, this was a VERY significant performance & cost effective mod.

I just got around to being able to afford the conversion kit and I noticed something... I went to the site about the 501 kit exhibited in the link above, and it said it's for v8's. Any conversion kits y'all know about for the 3.1? Thanks

I'm confused. I thought 3.8 Nate and 3.4(deployed) were the same person.

I emailed the guys at Mallory about a conversion kit.... here's what they said:

"Sorry but we do not offer a comveresion for this distributor but do offer a complete Unilite distributor P/N 4769201. The recommended coil would be a P/N 30440 and a ballast resistor P/N 700 to complete the system."

                      What do you guys think
